Geek News

We begin with…

Uber starts Autonomous Cab tests

Uber gave reporters rides in its autonomous Ford Fusion cars earlier this week in advance of announcing today the beginning of its research program. A subset of riders will be emailed an opportunity to opt-in to the program. If they hail a ride within the test area they may, at random, be picked up by an autonomous car. An engineer will sit in the driver’s seat and occasionally take over to do things like change lanes to pass a stopped vehicle. The are begins in a few neighborhoods and within a few weeks will expand to the airport and a northern suburb.    https://techcrunch.com/2016/09/14/1386711/?ncid=rss

After a seven-month trial Dutch police believe trained Eagles will be a reliable way to take down illegal UAVs. The Dutch National Police has started buying eagle chicks to train becoming the first national police force in the world to do so.

Chipotle Drone Delivery

Alphabet and Chipotle have started testing a service at Virginia Tech that delivers burritos by drone. However, receiving those airborne burritos doesn’t come cheap. According to reporters on site, there is a $5.99 service fee for drone delivery.

Pokemon Go Update adds Buddy System

Pokémon Go’s anticipated new buddy system rolled out over the last few days. Now, when you walk around and collect Pokémon, you can choose a “buddy” Pokémon that acquires candy of its Pokémon type after you hit certain distance benchmarks. This will allow players to power up those rare pokemon without having to find dozens of the same kind.

Mr. Sinister Coming to the Big Screen

At the end of X-Men: Apocalypse, I'm sure you all remember the post-credits scene that teased the appearance of Mister Sinister in a future X-Men film. Director Bryan Singer has confirmed that that film is Wolverine 3. The confirmation was found by CinemaBlend in the commentary that came with the recent digital release of X-Men: Apocalypse.

In that scene, we see a man wearing glasses taking the blood of Weapon X, a.k.a. Wolverine, from the Alkali Lake facility. The man puts the blood in a briefcase with the name Essex Corp. on it. Essex Corp. is the company owned by Nathaniel Essex, a.k.a. Mister Sinister. It has also been rumored that X-23 could also appear in Wolverine 3, which would fit in with Mr. Sinister's appearance.

Mr. Sinister is one of the most infamous super villains in the X-Men universe. He is a former scientist who, after an alteration by Apocalypse, ends up possessing "enhanced durability and an extended lifespan. Over the years, Sinister has used the genetic material of other mutants to grant himself a vast array of powers including telepathy, telekinesis, superhuman strength, the ability to project concussive energy from his hands, and total control of his body at the molecular level."
