Have you heard about Greece’s national debt recently? It’s not good. The country is out of money to pay its big bills, they missed their payment for a loan the other European countries gave them, and they even shut down their banks recently.
One guy in London, Thom Feeney, decided to help the country out. He started a crowdfunding campaign to help bail the country out. The Indigogo goal? €1.6 billion EUR or about $1.8 billion U.S. While that may seem like a lot. Mr. Feeney thinks the goal can be met and so do a lot of other people.
If you contribute to the campaign you also get to help some Greek citizens directly: Pledge €3 and get a postcard, produced by Greek printers, sent from the Greek Prime Minister. Pledge €6 and get a Greek Feta and Olive salad. Pledge €10 and get a small bottle of Ouzo sent to you. Pledge €25 and get a bottle of Greek wine.
The campaign has done pretty well. So well in fact that they even crashed the Indiegogo site this week for a little while. As of this moment the campaign has raised €1,781,486 in just 7 days. Not bad Mr. Feeney.
