Bacon found to Cause Cancer
The World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer (WHO IARC) declared that there is now enough evidence to say that processed meats — bacon, sausage, and other cured meats— cause cancer.
In the study where they published their results, they also said red meat was probably carcinogenic.
Researchers have repeatedly reported a connection between processed meat and colorectal cancer (also called bowel cancer) and red meat and the same cancers. A connection to prostate cancer has long been suspected, too.
While it's true that the World Health Organization put bacon onto the list of known human carcinogens there are a lot of other substances on that list including along with tobacco, asbestos, and plutonium. Even Alcoholic beverages were been on that list in 2012.
According to the report, eating an additional 50 grams(1/10 of a pound) of processed meat a day increases your risk of colorectal cancer by 18%. But your overall risk of getting these cancers in the first place is still low, so increasing a low number by 20% is less scary.
To look at the statistics another way, the researchers say that eating processed meats probably causes 34,000 people to die of cancer around the world every year. Alcohol is responsible for 600,000 cancer deaths every year (including a number of colorectal cancers), smoking kills one million people each year, and Air pollution causes another 200,000 deaths.

US Senate passes controversial CISA cybersecurity bill
The Verge reports that, this week the United States Senate has voted to pass the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act, or CISA, a bill that privacy advocates have long argued will quietly give the government invasive spying powers. The House has already passed similar legislation, and the two versions will now enter a conference committee, to be reconciled before being sent to President Obama.
Under the bill, companies would be encouraged to silently share "security" information with the Department of Homeland Security and, ultimately, other government agencies. But civil rights groups and tech companies have argued that the terms of such agreements are vague, and give broad leeway for companies to share information with the feds without accountability.

The EU ends roaming fees and maybe net neutrality
Gizmodo reports that the European Union has passed some interesting changes to their internet laws. On a good note the EU has ended roaming charges between their member nations. On the downside they left open loop holes that some critics say endangers Net Neutrality. These loop holes allow for paid for fast internet lanes, Zero Rating- Not counting some internet traffic against subscriber’s data caps giving some companies an economic advantage. One of the last loop holes allows ISPs to create classes of traffic that they can regulate. So if an ISP doesn’t like BitTorrent Traffic, Video streams, or a competitor to their own products, they can hypothetically slow down that traffic whenever they feel like it. Or they could charge those services more as a class.

EU Votes to Grant Asylum to Edward Snowden
After years of pressure from activists, the European Parliament passed a resolution urging its member states to offer protection to Edward Snowden. That would mean dropping all charges against the whistleblower and shielding him from extradition to the United States.
For Snowden, who’s been holed up in Russia for as long as anybody can remember, this is really great news. The former NSA contractor said as much on Twitter:
“Hearing reports EU just voted 285-281, overcoming huge pressure, to cancel all charges against me and prevent extradition. Game-changer.”
Anywhere in Europe is better than being stuck in Moscow during the winter.

Honda just unveiled its new hydrogen-powered car
At the Tokyo Motor Show in Japan this week, Honda announced that its hydrogen-powered cars will go on sale in Japan as early as March 2016, with launches in Europe and the US to follow.
The five-seated sedan, called the FCV Clarity, can travel 700 km (434 miles) on a single charge. It’s been priced at 7.66 million yen, or $62,807 US.

Nintendo's First Mobile Game Is Called Miitomo, Out In 2016
In Miitomo, each player first makes their own Mii. Then, players are asked a series of questions and based on those answers, they communicate with other Miis.
Think of it as a social networking game, but for Miis. Or a new incarnation of the game Tomodachi Life.
Miitomo will be out by March 2016. Miitomo is free-to-play but with add-ons available for purchase. This is the first of five smartphone games Nintendo has announced it’s releasing by March 2017. Other titles will be paid downloads.

Netflix to stream Force Awakens in Canada only next year
Variety reports that Netflix subscribers in the Great White North will be able to stream “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in 2016, the only territory where the company currently has secured streaming rights for the film.
The reason Netflix will be able to offer the much-anticipated movie in Canada next year — and not in the U.S. or anywhere else — has to do with the timing of when Disney’s pay-TV distribution deals were up for grabs.

Chris Hardwick To Host NBC Game Show ‘The Wall’
Chris Hardwick has been tapped to host NBC’s new game show The Wall from NBA superstar LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s Spring Hill Entertainment and Glassman Media. Hardwick also will executive produce.
The 10-episode series will feature two-person teams related by family, friendship or life experience. They’ll compete for cash that can be won or lost in an instant, depending upon whether a ball bounces their way, or a trivia question is answered correctly.

J-Lo replacing The Player On NBC
Deadline reports that NBC has announced a premiere date announcement for Shades Of Blue. The straight-to-series police drama starring Jennifer Lopez and Ray Liotta will debut Thursday, January 14 at 9 PM with a two-hour premiere episode directed by Barry Levinson. The show will then move to its regular 10 PM timeslot behind The Blacklistthe following Thursday, January 21. There, Shades Of Blue will succeed new fall drama The Player, whose order was recently reduced from 13 to nine episodes.
MARVEL’S SQUIRREL GIRL IS NO LONGER A MUTANT
In the first issue of Marvel’s All-New, All-Different relaunch of The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Doreen Green a.k.a. Squirrel Girl was outed as not being a mutant…which is kind of a surprise considering that her very first appearance in 1988 established that she was one!
If Squirrel Girl is no longer a mutant and was never a member of the X-Men, that would seem to open the door for her to eventually appear in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe in some capacity.
